Studio Seva Circus Fitness Classes

All Circus classes are ages 18 and up.

Please be on time. Late arrivals are unsafe for you and disruptive to the class. If you are more than five minutes late, you will not be allowed to join class.

Just like all of our Yoga classes, our Circus classes are always all-levels, but this does not mean easy. Aerial Arts of any expression is challenging, but approachable from all levels. Not sure where to begin? Start with reading each class description and special instructions to see which classes appeal to you. All levels are welcome to attend a weekly class, so register for your class online and jump right in! If you are unsure of your ability to attend a Circus class, we recommend beginning with Aerial Yoga and go from there. Aerial Yoga is not a prerequisite for Circus classes, but it’s a good starting point.

Please be on time. If you’re not early, you’re late.

Aerial Silks: our silks are rigged at 13 feet and are designed for aerial dance AND CONDITIONING.

Learn fundamentals to build up to higher level skills. This class will be beginner friendly, and will focus on building solid fundamental skills on the Aerial Silks. The fundamentals are important in order to move on to more complex skills and shapes, such as dives, drops, and rolls. While this is all-levels and is beginner friendly, it is not aimed at beginners. If you are brand new to silks and would prefer to set up a private 101 session, visit our website and go to the personal training menu.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS

Online pre-registration and prepayment is required before attending.

Pole classes are part of our Circus Program; Pole class is considered a Circus class. All Circus rules and policies apply to this class, including prices, packages, and memberships.

What to Wear: Layers work great for transitioning from warm ups and base work to work on the pole in shorts and a sports bra. Heels are always welcome, but never required. Knee pads are recommended. Ensure there are no zippers or buckles on clothing and prior to class please remove watches, bracelets, rings, and any hanging earrings.

Grip: Students will be working on building comfort with grip, but grip aids can be a valuable tool for training. For an optimal experience, users should consider purchasing a grip aid. Lotions that contain oils will make grip nearly impossible. We recommend lotions that are free of oils. Some of our recommended lotions include: Cerave, Eurcerin, and Glysolid.

Aerial Sling: rigged at approximately chest height on a single point spinner.

This is a great class for those ready to jump into an aerial arts practice! Learn how to create a spinning and fluid dance in the aerial sling with body rolls, dives, and drops sprinkled in for extra creative movement. The Sling provides more support to begin learning intermediate and advanced skills like climbing and wrapping for dives and drops. This class is similar to Aerial Yoga, but the slings will spin and be rigged higher than our Aerial Yoga hammocks. Begin with a few Aerial Yoga classes and then progress to the Aerial Sling to get you even stronger for Silks, Lyra, and Pole.

Circus or Pole Open Practice: (for current or recent students to practice what they have learned in class)

Must be current student or have attended a class or private within the last 3 months. Only attend open circus or work on apparatus that you have experience with. This is not an open play time or come see what you like time. Instructions on new skills will not be offered in this practice time. We recommend bringing a notebook to weekly classes to keep track of your skills and goals so you can have a plan for your open circus practice. Open practice is $10 per session; included in unlimited Yoga and Circus membership. Must have attended the weekly apparatus class or have trained at Studio Seva on the apparatus in order to practice in open gym. Safety is our number one priority, so this class is monitored and students will not be able to attend without proper prerequisites; refunds will not be offered, your pass will be ready for you to use once you are ready to practice on your own.

Special Instructions:

Online preregistration and prepayment is required before attending.

What to Wear: Please wear the appropriate attire as directed for the apparatus you are training on. You will not be permitted to jump from one apparatus to another; you will be required to use the same apparatus for the duration of the open practice, so dress accordingly.

Experience: You must have taken at least one class within the last three months at Studio Seva before attending an Open Circus Practice. Preferably, current students who have a regular weekly circus practice will utilize this open practice time. If you have prior experience or training and are new to the studio, please text or email Joni for admittance to the open practice.

Absolutely no instructing other students in Open Circus Practice. This is our rule no matter what class, and will not be tolerated in Open Circus Practice. You will be asked to leave if you violate this policy.

Celebrating a special event? Groups larger than 4 attendees must book a private party, not a class.

If you are new to Studio Seva Circus please review our Circus policies:

  • Reach each class description and special instructions for each class before attending.

  • Do not play on equipment that is not part of your class, and do not get on equipment before the beginning of class.

  • Be in the moment: be present and only listen to your teacher’s instructions. Be present in your practice, and remember not to help or teach other students. Please don’t interfere with your fellow student’s learning process by offering your advice or instructions. This includes giving your advice, tips, or what you consider help. This is confusing to new students and unsafe for everyone involved. You will be asked to leave the class and possibly be refused further training if you violate this policy.

  • Only progress to new skills as your instructor directs you in your practice. Refrain from attempting movements without learning the skill from your instructor first.

  • Bring a notebook and pen to write down skills and combos so you can mentally practice your new skills at home and have notes for open gym time.

  • If your instructor is helping another student and you need assistance, please be patient and wait for your instructor to assist you before attempting any aerial work without clear instructions.

  • Please be on time, or come early! We begin class with warm-ups on the apparatus, so we recommend you come a few minutes early to get a floor warm up in on your own before class. If you find that you are going to be more than a couple of minutes late, please cancel your registration and try another time.

  • One final note to anyone that has Circus or Aerial Arts experience but is new to Studio Seva: our rigging point for all equipment is 13 feet; we do not teach (in weekly classes or privates) multiple rolls, dives, drops, or dynamic skills that require higher rigging points. We do not teach doubles or duo skills in weekly classes or in private sessions.

  • For students seeking one-on-one beginning training or advanced training, private training sessions and packages are available.

  • Participants must be 16 or older.
